Iris Indian Chief (Ayres 1929) Indian Chief is one the iris grown on President Thomas Jefferson's farm 'Monticello'.
Tall Bearded 35" Very good branching for cut flowers. Scented. Blooms June/July. Flowers are large.
S: A raspberry red/ bronze violet and F: below petals are darker Maroon Carmine Red. ( A Bi-tone iris) This is a hardy, hardy iris that will give you continuous blooms during bloom time.. Plant iris 'Rhizome' with its roots in the soil and the top exposed. The Rhizome needs to be "baked" by the sun to form flowers. Plant in very sunny area. Drought tolerant. (pic of an Iris Rhizome)
Do not plant in parital shade. Fertilize with 6-10-10 before and after bloom time.
